Comforts From The Cross

By Elyse Fitzpatrick

I still remember reading this book with my bible study and having it finally start to click in to place: I really don't belong in guilt and shame anymore. "It is finished."

Deeper

By Dane Ortlund

Real growth comes through going deeper in the gospel and God's love for you. Know it, love it, bathe in it. By reading this book.

Parenting

By Paul David Tripp

This book helped my connect the gospel to my philosophies and goals of parenting. My #1 parenting goal is not well-behaved children. It is that they would know to Whom to run with their brokeness and sin.

The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness

By Timothy Keller

The title says it all: The FREEDOM of Self-Forgetfulness: the path to true Christian joy. You don't need to be great, you don't need to worry when you're not. You are invited to stop thinking so much about yourself and just enjoy your Jesus instead.

Extravagant Grace

By Barbara R. Duguid

Where you "on fire for the Lord" at some point in your life and then it kind of snuffed out? Do you feel confused or even ashamed of experiencing a dry spiritual season where "lukewarm" pretty much sums up your faith? Ha, me too. Read this book and you'll see that all very differently and you. will. rejoice.

The Soul of Shame

By Curt Thompson, M.D.

Shame is haunting you whether you know it or not. This book will make you wise to the wiliness of shame so that you can scorn it and continue to grow in the connection and creativity you were made for.

Delighting in the Trinity

By Michael Reeves

Don't be fooled by the subtitle "introduction to the Christian faith." This book is full of gems I had never heard before in spite of being a Christian for 2 decades when I read it...gems that will make you so happy to get to know a God like Him.

Every Moment Holy

By Douglas Kaine McKelvey

I use this on my own and with my family to help process and sanctify all kinds of moments: washing windows, burying a pet, going on a trip, finishing a good book, drinking a morning coffee. Volume 2 has also been a huge help in walking through death and grief.

Boundaries

By Dr. Henry Cloud & Dr. John Townsend

Classic! I return to this book time and time again to help me and my clients untangle and understand what is my responsibility and what is not.

How to Talk so Kids Will Listen & Listen so Kids Will Talk

By Adele Faber & Elaine Mazlish

Another classic. Full of ideas for parenting that help keep things calm and productive. Get the Little Kids version if your kids are wee.

Gentle & Lowly

By Dane Ortlund

If you are not utterly, joyfully convinced that Jesus' posture toward you is warm, welcoming, gentle and humble, I beg you to read this book. He is the. BEST. God. Ever. Know it, believe it, swim in it.

And More!

Here are a few more I often recommend for more specific reasons:

The Meaning of Marriage by Timothy Keller

The Mystery of Marriage by Mike Mason

God, Sex and Your Marriage by Julie Slattery

The Essential Enneagram by Daniels and Price

Honest Talk by John Fort

A Still and Quiet Mind by Esther Smith

*Disclaimer: it should go without saying, but simply because a resource is recommended doesn’t mean every view promoted by the resource is being endorsed. If you need to know that everything someone says is 100% biblical before you’re comfortable listening to him or her at all, you’ll never be comfortable—not even with yourself. By God’s grace, we can learn from all kinds of people, even if we disagree about important things.
